Tires aren't much, especially if you get some take offs. The damage doesn't look bad but it depends on how pretty you want the bike to be and how fast. How much are you willing to spend on "repairs". Let me know if you want me to go look at these bikes in person with you.

I don't mind some damage cuz I figure imma lay it down eventually anyway. But I don't want it to looked thrashed. I'm looking to spend around $4k depending on the year. Ya if you could go with me to look at a couple bikes that'd be great. I don't wanna get screwed over somehow.
Ya if any of you are selling bikes in the 4,000 range then let me know.

My blackberry makes helping impossible from the road. Putz is a pretty knowledgeable guy. could always meet the owner at a shop and go over it with a mechanic. you're on the right track Already

Are you settled on an R6? Or would you be willing to look at different bikes. I'm asking because the R6 is one of the more difficult bikes to ride on the street. They make almost no power down low and are quite a bit taller than other bikes.
For a first bike nothing really beats an SV650. They are light, turn well, and have a great power band for novices. If you have to have a 600 I would recommend going with the Honda or Suzuki. They have more torque and their power band is lower in the rpm range. They are also a little bit easier to ride than the Yamaha's.

I'll look into other bikes. What makes the yamaha harder to ride as compared to others?

I'll look into other bikes. What makes the yamaha harder to ride as compared to others? As Oneup said the seat hight is higher and the R6 makes almost all its power way up in the rev range so not great for around town in traffic. They make great race bikes but not that good for a daily ride His SV suggestion is a good one, easy to handle, good torque down low, cheap parts for when you crash it(you will, we all do) Let us know if you need help and we would be happy to take a look at bikes with you

I may be selling my 07 R6 in the near future in order to buy a race/track bike. I'll let you know if I do.

Guy with the 05 GSXR is drunk if he thinks he can get $5K for it. $4490 is the KBB RETAIL on it CBR looks like a decent deal if the ONLY damage is the fairing. I would have the frame checked out to make sure it is straight before i bought it though

Guy with the 05 GSXR is drunk if he thinks he can get $5K for it. $4490 is the KBB RETAIL on it ;D ;D ;D There are some really funny jokes over there at craigslist. There are guys that ridiculously over price their bikes (when comparing with KBB). I didnt see this one specifically, but i'll take a look at it. I know cause before I bought my R6 i did a reeeeeally thorough search on bike prices and such... Engineers are weird creatures! ;D ;D CBR looks like a decent deal if the ONLY damage is the fairing. I would have the frame checked out to make sure it is straight before i bought it though How can you check if the frame is straight, Alan!?

So I went to Michaels today and sat on some bikes to get the feel for them to see how they all compared. I gotta say I loved the way the gsxr felt, as well as i sat on an 08 ninja. The r6 was definitely higher. I was on the tips of my toes on it. and the cbr felt pretty good too. Looks like i'll be doing some looking around this week.. the gsxr 750 that i went to look at today a 2wcp was being sold as I walked in.
