OK...so in prep for this weekend I am getting my forks redone. I had the suspension set up by the suspension guy at Z2. I know my preload is OK, but when I double checked my other settings I was only 1 turn on rebound. I have no clue what this should be set to for a bumpy track like RFR. More? Less? How about feel. What should I be listening to on the bike to tell me if the rebound is correct.
My 'band' that indicates travel was all the way down too. More compression? or preload?
Thanks -Clueless in Suspension

YA heard that! ya know I think if a guy was working on your bike at a bike shop and the phone rings then several customers show up and that guy had to do wrench, phone, cust.serv., then return to your unit, that guy better have a good focus or they might leave some screws loose. I will put the DVD in my truck now so I wont forget and will bring it 2ya after work.

You can also ask Jason when he is here this weekend. He is a smart cookie.

Thought it would be nice to see something HERE so others who also might have the same question can get smart too

Suggestion: set it in the middle of the road for compression and rebound. Go to the track and let them set it for you for the $20. Note the settings they use compared to middle of the road, ride. If good report back here.
If it needs more tuning at the track pay the $40 and work with them to get it right. Report findings here.

been there done that Josh. Doesn't help me learn the feel, or how to adjust the settings to see the differences. Zoran looks at my bike, makes a tweek and says "don't touch" and I haven't for 3 years now. But different tracks need different settings so I won't to learn how to feel the difference...or at least understand it. It's the engineer in me Now if I was a lawyer, I would let them set it for me then sue them when I crashed LOL

Ha. Funny... I was suggesting you have them adjust it a few times so you can feel the differences.

Hey...my screwdriver didn't cost me $40! LOL actually, when you have it done by the suspension guys, they'll give you a spreadsheet so you can change the settings and write down what you feel. They'll analyze that at the end of the day for you. But that's ok for RFR. Then when you go to THILL you have to start all over

If your front tire slides after a bump or rolling on the gas hard. You may want faster (H) rebound or slower rear comperssion or damping. Weird, adjusting the rear will fix your front. YES.
Something like that. I will buy the 40 screwdriver for both days.

Something like that. I will buy the 40 screwdriver for both days. Funny... but it works both ways too on that. I've been adjusting the forks on my F800GS and even just two clicks of compression up front makes a difference. Here is the skinny. I the F800GS has an issue with the front end. It is harsh on square edge bumps (aka high speed compression sucks). Also dives under braking and in corners on decel (springs are too soft). I redid the suspensin completely by putting the guts from a set of Marzocchi Shiver forks (from an Aprilia RXV 4.5) in. Had some machine work and revalve done in Carson at McCoy's off road. When I get the forks back - no more dive on braking and tracks awesome in corners. The square edge bumps still feel a big harsh though. So I adjust the compression 4 clicks lighter. That is about 1 full turn. Rode it yesterday... all of a sudden the square edge bumps feels better but it dives a bit too much on braking now. (not as bad as stock... but more than I want). Here is the part that is pertinent - just those 4 clicks and I could feel the rear come up more on braking. AND I could also feel the ABS start going off on hard braking. Adjusting the front 4 clicks lighter compression made the ass end feel too light and actually lit up the ABS. Weird. Moved it back two clicks tighter and today it all feels better. Amazing how it changes. Now, that all said... I may go a touch stiffer in the springs from .5 to .55 and then also lighter oil from 10wt fork oil to 7.5wt.
