Ski season is upon us and if your like me most of your skis and or boards are dull and wax-less. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in getting together for a tuning party? I've been doing it for years myself and have tons of files, scrapers and ptex. Who's down?

Here's my tuning regimen:
Take new snowboard out of plastic. Dull the contact points alot, the rest of the edges a little. Wax about every 5 times said snowboard is used. Repeat next year with new snowboard.

I'm a bump skier so naturally I seldom turn or use my edges. That said, I'd hang out and pretend to wax the boards with y'all

I have them all waxed at the start of the year professionally. For $20 it is worth it compared to the time and effort normally....
But if you have having a tuning party I'm in. I've got 2 or 3 to tune so let me know where and when. :-)

It's called detuning and it's done at the tip and tail after the sharpening of the entire edge. They can be very twitchy out of the box or fresh off the belt. I detune the ski according to the ability or type of skiing to be done.
You actually do not want tip to hook up to it's full potential (think high-side) and you need to tail to let go so you can finish the turn. It's done at shops and by hand 100% of the time, you just never heard it til today! My skis are pretty detuned for an 8-10 inch area in the front and about 6 inch in the tails. Underfoot is actually very sharp. If your skis are too 'hooky' after a tune, you can detune them on a rock quicker than you can sharpen them!

Also Dale, Depending on one's style, or preferred terrain, you might not want or need edge holding ability. If you spend time in half pipe's or terrain parks, or even in tight chutes you'd want to scrub velocity without really changing directions. Dull edges make that easier. Think of how cars can drift around corners.
