I used to run 10-40 castrol reg motor oil, recently switched to castrol motorcycle oil. not a huge difference, but its just about the same price at auto zone so...

I usually use BP, because it get's everywhere, and is fairly abundant.

i have always run the Actevo in all my bikes- on the last oil change on my RR i put the maxxis stuff in and noticed a big change in clutch feel and shifting ease (bad) i will be going back to the Actevo just my two cents

Yes, make sure you buy the motorcycle oil, it have additives.
Generally all fresh oil is good. I run the castrol 10-40 part syn. in the 750. I think the clutch wear and feel is more imporant. The engine will be fine reguardless.
I also run a 10-60 fill syn. in the husky cause the manual says so.
