So with a naked bike like the SV560 does one still need race plastics to race in the AFM? I'm thinking of selling my Ninja 650 to be replaced with the naked SV for maintenance reasons. However, if I will still need to buy a track kit for the SV, why bother selling the Ninja? Just buy the track kit for the Ninja.
Thanks in advance.

You need a belly pan to catch any oil spill that might happen

Sorry, but I am lost on how the need for fairings relates to a maintenance reason?

Bikes are easier to work on without all those silly plastics.
Redleader, I'm not following what your saying.

I think he is trying to help you get your point across Ninja = maintenance problems
Naked sv + track fairings = same amount you could fix the ninja and get track fairings for??
But how does the ninja have maintenance problems? Or do you just need track fairings for it?

I think there is some confusion between repair and maintenance costs as they are not the same thing even if they hit your bottom line the same way.
Anyway, you could race an SV naked but for the required place to put a number and a catch pan in case you have a leak. So no, full fairing would not be needed unless something has changed. The group you're racing in like AFM will have details in a rule book.

I would just need track fairings for the Ninja. But if I can sell my ninja and by an SV and not have to buy plastics for the SV, that'll save me money. Plus if I wreck a SV i don't have to buy new plastics because its naked. Then when I want to work on the bike I don't have those obnoxious plastics in the way.
So I would just need the belly pan...Hmm.. Any body familiar enough with the SV to know if its possible to just mount the belly pan?

Yes, if you decide to buy an SV for racing or trackdays you need to know that from that point forward all of your questions are best directed at Zoran about the bike. Whatever he tells you is the right answer. Like Dub said, race bodywork comes off quick. It is also easy to repair and cheap to replace.

Wow. God is no understatement. Thanks for the referral.
Hmm...then I could just buy track plastics for my ninja and not have to worry about getting a new bike. Decisions decisions. Any opinions?

The SV is a proven platform with tons of information available. There are a few people that race the kawis but they are few and far between and information is harder to get.
My opinion is if you can afford to switch to an SV you are going to be better off. You will have an easier time figuring out what the bike needs and getting it set up to the optimal platform. It will give you more time to worry about your riding rather than bike setup. But if it turns out to be considerably more expensive then just race the Kawi. Both can be effective race machines.

I would simply lay out your situation and ask Zoran. I'm sure in 10 seconds you'll know his opinion. And I believe he has built some Kawi 650's so...
If it is going to be a race bike then I'd guess a used race SV is your bet.
