Is it possible to have a street legal AFM race bike? I know turn signals and mirrors must come off, but those aren't the most difficult things to take on and off. Thanks!

Although, I just noticed the production class. Does that mean I can just ride in like normal and race? Or do I still need to take off my mirrors and such?

You can have a street legal race bike. Besides turn signals and mirrors you will have to put your headlight and kickstand back on. Putting the headlight back on means you will generally need another cowling with the headlight hole cut in it. Other than those items everything else can stay the same.

Production class just means close to a production bike. In order to race with the AFM your bike can not have any of the above mentioned items and it also must have a belly pan that can hold five quarts of liquid. You must also safety wire and RVT the bike according to tech requirements

You sure it's not 3.4 lol? Yea, it seems as if production class is rather silly. Thanks for the feed back!

The GSXR is right around 3 liters with the oil filter so around 3.2 quarts but you also hold around 3 quarts of water so if you had a failure on either one they want you to not just dump it straight onto the track. Even with a 5 quart belly pan you will still dump oil on the track if you turn with oil in the pan.
Production class is pretty basic. Last year at Buttonwillow a new racer showed up with his street bike that only had a different belly pan and with the help of a mentor was able to get his bike prepped and able to race in one night. All they are asking you to do is make your bike safe. They are trying to make sure you take any glass off your bike, have a belly pan that can hold fluid in case of a leak, and wire your bike so it doesn't fall apart while you are riding it. I think the rulebook states that you can even just tape your headlight. The AFM takes safety very seriously.
Different race organizations have different rules with safety wiring and tech preparations. AFM requires the most to be safety wired or RVT'd. WERA has fewer things that need to be secured but they do require safety wire on all hoses instead of just using RVT. TTP has little to no requirements for tech and AMA is more concerned with how your bike looks and that it has the right stickers than they are with the actual condition of the motorcycle.
If you ever want to race prep your bike let me know and the next time I'm in town I'll help you get it ready. I'll be prepping at least three bikes next time I'm in Reno.

The joke was, I overfilled my oil pan by about a quart, thus making a 2.4 into a 3.4 lol.
Huh...well I'm not actually planning on racing for a while yet, I'm just planning my bike ownership for the next few years lol. I'll definitely have to research these other organizations. Where are you from? I'm not from Reno, I'm from Sac lol. Thanks!

you really cannot ride it to the track... Commuting on race tires or racing on street tires are terrible options and what happens when you crash?
